Frequently
Asked Questions (and Answers!)
Q.
What is the primary function of SCADDS/Quantity Estimator 2002?
A.
SCADDS/Quantity Estimator 2002 is meant for Quantity Estimation
& Costing of the various Items & Works. This is the core module
of SCADDS/Building Estimator 2002. All reports are prepared using this
module.
Q.
What is the type of input required for Quantity calculations?
A.
The Input of data is classified into highly User-friendly
groups. Accordingly, you can estimate Quantities of various Building
Components as well as Items of Works with the minimal input of data.
Q.
Can I use Drawings as input for Quantity Estimation?
A.
Using a drawing as an input for Quantity Estimation is only
a myth and 10 out of 10 users have understood this reality only after
they have invested for such software products. An Estimation Project
is highly complex in nature and in order to use a drawing as an input,
that drawing must be suitably pre-processed in such a way that all data
required to be entered must be available in the drawing. These data
not only include mere dimensions; they also include various Item Specifications
and the third dimension. Moreover, different Items of Works which represent
the same entity in a drawing pose greater confusion and longer time
for pre-processing. In summary, you would end up spending more time
making a drawing suitable for using it as an input compared to direct
data input! This method is useful only for specific tasks whose scope
is highly limited and simple in nature.
Q.
How SCADDS/Quantity Estimator 2002 can help me calculate quantities
quickly?
A.
SCADDS/Quantity Estimator 2002 is equipped with the most
powerful geometrical library ever developed in any Building Estimation
software. Several pre-defined components with three-dimensional geometry
are available. In addition, excellent 2D and 3D Images are provided
in each Input Dialog to help visualize the user each building component
quickly. Once a component is chosen, SCADDS/Quantity Estimator 2002
can automatically calculate secondary Items of Works for that component
such as Plastering, Painting, Shuttering, Flooring, etc., with just
a single mouse click! You can also use the 'Command Prompt' to enter
Commands directly!
Q.
What are the Building Components for which 3D Geometry is built-in?
A.
Beams with various sectional shapes, Slabs of various Shapes,
Columns of various Sections, Flat/Sloped Isolated Footings with/without
Pedestals, Combined Footings with/without Pedestals, Continuous Footings,
Masonry Footings, Piles & Pile Caps of various Shapes, Ordinary
Walls & Compound Walls, Staircases & Ramps, Arches, Corbels,
Shells, Folded Plates, Inclined Slabs and Spherical Domes.
The
Updated version [1.02.1001] supports Curved Walls of Brick
Masonry, Stone Masonry, RCC and Hollow Block Masonry; Stone Masonry
walls with Openings and with/without Joinery; Circular (Annular) Raft
foundation with/without Ring Beam; Continuous Footing with Strap Beam;
RCC Columns with I-section and C-section.
Q.
What are the types of Items of Works available?
A.
Earthwork, PCC, RCC, Pre-cast Concrete, Pile Foundations,
Steel Reinforcement, Roofing, Flooring, Cement Mortar, Plastering, Skirting
& Dadoing, Painting, Finishing, Brick work, Stone work, Preparatory
work, Damp Proof Course, Plinth Protection, Weathering Course, Shuttering,
Wood Work, Steel, Iron & Aluminium Work, Fittings, False Ceiling,
Water Proofing, Electrical Work, Plumbing & Sanitation, Water Supply,
Drainage & Sewage, Repairs to Building, Dismantling & Demolishing,
Horticulture & Landscaping and Road work.
Q.
Is it possible to modify an Item of Work after it is added to
any given Project?
A.
Yes! You can modify, copy, paste and delete entries you create
for all Items of Works. Excellent Copying and Pasting Functions will
help you add Items of Works faster!
Q.
Is it possible to input the Quantity for any Item of Work directly,
without entering its dimensions?
A.
Yes, of course!
Q.
Is it possible to preview an Item Specification and its Rate
after selecting it for an Item of Work?
A.
Yes! You can preview the Complete Item Specification and
its Compound Rate.
Q.
In case of Foundations, can it calculate Earthwork Excavation
and Filling Quantities automatically?
A.
Yes! Once you have selected a particular foundation system,
SCADDS/Quantity Estimator 2002 can calculate Excavation Volume as well
as Filling Volume automatically. However, you can switch of these features
whenever you don't want them!
Q.
Do I have total flexibility in controlling automatic quantity
calculation features for Shuttering, Plastering, Painting, Flooring,
etc.?
A.
Yes, you can switch off these automatic calculation features
whenever you don't want them, for each Item of Work and for each entry
under each Item of Work!
